The governor and the Legislature of
California declared March 15 as “California Youth in Theatre Day.” Over
300 prize-winning theater students were invited to perform at the event,
including Lyman Gilmore musical theater students Breanna Sanders,
Shelby Figueroa, Bryce Nguyen, Aubrey Pohl, Aurora Dibert, Quinlin
Schug, Faith Stubbs and Syreena Cain.
After performing, students had the opportunity to meet Assembly Member
Brian Dahle. In addition to their performances, students sang on the
west steps of the Capitol, listened to inspirational speakers, attended
various theatrical workshops and met with other theater students from
across the state.
This past weekend 20 musical theater students attended the 16th Annual Middle Stage Drama Fest in Pleasant Hill. Students performed monologues, scenes and musical numbers, competing for gold, silver, and bronze medals. This year over 300 students from 20 middle schools competed in the festival. Gilmore students Breanna Sanders, Abby Garcia, Quinn Schug, Brandon Weaver and Koya Porter received gold medals for their musical numbers and duo scenes. In the end, Gilmore walked away with five gold, ten silver and fifteen bronze medals.
