Lyman Gilmore’s STEAM Academy integrates Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to inspire students in learning experiences aligned with the California Common Core Standards. The Next Generation Science Standards will provide the framework for implementation of the program. STEAM is the intentional integration of core content with art inspiring all students to think deeply, develop creative solutions, and aspire to a greater future. The Lyman Gilmore STEAM Academy consists of two strands of students. One strand is made up of accelerated students who are ready to be challenged by the extensions that the STEAM model provides.  The other strand of students have been identified as lacking engagement and interest in their school experience.  They are students who face a considerable challenge as a result of home factors, poor self-concept, or a lack of a meaningful connection to school.  By incorporating the STEAM model, we strive to meet the needs of these student populations and provide them a maximized benefit during their middle school years.
