What problem do we hope to solve?

Goals and Objectives

Students are graduating from our schools without the skills they need to be ready for a career or college. Even worse, students are dropping out of our schools due to the perceived lack of value our schools offer them. Local industry is also feeling the strain of lack of an entry level and trainable workforce. STEAM jobs are expected to grow 21.4 percent over the next five years, local and statewide business leaders say they do not have enough skilled workers to fill these jobs. There is a direct link between our current shortage of computer programmers and lack of computer sciences taught in our public schools.  There is also an immediate demand for career path opportunities to allow students to enter a rewarding occupation directly following high school graduation.  Participants in the LGSA will be the first in line and prepared to ease the disparity between education and workforce demands.
